Veteran Actor and Scholar Professor Kola Oyewo Dies at 80

The announcement of his passing was made on Friday by his son, Adetoyese Oyewo, via a Facebook post in which he honored his father’s life and contributions.
In his tribute, Adetoyese described his father as a man of “love, wisdom, strength, and kindness,” expressing deep sorrow over the loss. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my beloved father,” he wrote. He added that while the family is grieving, they remain thankful for the impact Professor Oyewo had on countless lives.
Adetoyese emphasized that his father’s legacy would endure through the memories of family, friends, colleagues, and admirers who were touched by his work. He also called for prayers and support for the family during this difficult time, noting they are celebrating a life dedicated to service, learning, and the arts.
Professor Oyewo was a prominent figure in Nigerian theatre and performing arts, respected both as an actor and an academic.
