Governor Encourages Nephew Davido Following Grammy Loss
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed support for his nephew, renowned Nigerian musician Davido, after the artist did not win at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Despite the setback, Davido, whose full name is David Adeleke, has maintained an optimistic demeanor. He took to social media on Monday to convey his gratitude and unwavering faith, posting images from the awards ceremony.
“Oluwa Dey my side,” Davido wrote in pidgin English, which translates to “God is on my side.”
In response to his nephew’s message, Governor Adeleke, a consistent supporter of Davido’s musical pursuits, extended words of encouragement: “Proud of you always @davido.”
Davido acknowledged the governor’s support with a heartfelt reply: “Love u Excellency!!! We move ACCORDINGLY SIR.”
According to reports, Davido was nominated for the Best African Music Performance category for his collaboration “With You,” featuring Omah Lay. However, the award was ultimately won by South African artist Tyla, marking her second win in this category after her success with the song “Water.”
Despite not securing the prestigious award, Davido remains hopeful, relying on his faith and the backing of his family, fans, and fellow musicians.
