What happened to the cows Roger Federer won

Alongside the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup is one of the most iconic pieces of sports iconography in the United States.

The trophy is the oldest in North American sports, having been donated by Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, Lord Stanley of Preston and son of the Earl of Derby in 1982.

He purchased the trophy for 10 guineas, or $50 at the time and was first presented to the championship hockey club of the Dominion of Canada a year later.

National Hockey Association took possession of the Stanley Cup in 1910 and it’s become a symbol of the sport.

Since 1926, only NHL teams have competed for the trophy. It’s sheer size owes to modifications over time with tiered rings occasionally added to account for the winners.

Because the names of every member of the winning team are inscribed, rings are eventually retired to make room.

The Cup currently consists of a bowl, three bands, a collar, and five barrel or uniform bands, it stands at nearly 90cm.
