Bus catches fire on Third Mainland Bridge, traffic disrupted

A commercial bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Monday, leading to significant traffic disruptions along this major route.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, sharing footage of the burning vehicle on its official social media channels. According to LASTMA, the fire erupted in the section of the bridge heading toward Oworonshoki, prompting a swift response from traffic officials to secure the area and manage traffic flow.
“A bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge. Our officers are on the scene managing traffic and ensuring safety,” LASTMA stated in a brief update. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but as of the last report, no injuries were reported.
Motorists are advised to remain calm, adhere to traffic directives, and consider alternate routes as recovery operations are underway.
The Third Mainland Bridge is one of the busiest thoroughfares in Lagos, and incidents along this route frequently lead to extensive traffic congestion.
