Giannis Antetokounmpo trade: Bucks star to join Miami Heat – reports | Basketball News

Giannis Antetokounmpo Joins Miami Heat in High-Profile Trade

Published June 23, 2026

Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to join the Miami Heat from the Milwaukee Bucks, according to multiple reports, including ESPN.

The 31-year-old, a 10-time All-Star and key player in the Bucks’ 2021 championship victory, had been the subject of speculation regarding his future in Milwaukee. Miami reportedly outmaneuvered the Boston Celtics in securing Antetokounmpo’s services.

In the trade, Miami is expected to acquire Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis, while sending Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis to Milwaukee. The Bucks will receive three first-round draft picks, a pick swap, and a second-round pick as part of the deal.

This move concludes a period of uncertainty surrounding Antetokounmpo’s career with the Bucks, the only NBA team he has played for since being drafted in 2013. His exit follows a challenging season for Milwaukee, which ended with a 32-50 record and a failure to reach the playoffs.

Throughout the last year, Antetokounmpo expressed frustration with the team’s management, particularly regarding his recovery from a left knee hyperextension. He had stated that he felt fit to contribute to the team’s playoff aspirations, despite being declared unavailable by the front office.

In April, following Milwaukee’s disappointing season, he emphasized the need for better communication with management, asserting, “I feel like sometimes people just don’t listen. They listen to the sources. The main source is me. It is what it is.”

Antetokounmpo’s move to Miami marks a significant shift in the landscape of the NBA and sets the stage for the upcoming season.
