LIVE: Star’s retirement forces late Aussie switch

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – that’s the message from Australian captain Pat Cummins ahead of the first Test against New Zealand.

The visitors will remain unchanged for the clash, despite losing their last red-ball fixture in shocking fashion against West Indies.

”It’s always nice to have a full contingent to pick from,” Cummins said.

“I doesn’t feel like we need to reinvent the wheel.”

Those sentiments were echoed from Usman Khawaja, with the veteran opener looking forward to building his partnership with Steve Smith.

”It’s obviously a bit of a reshuffle with Smudge (Smith) at the top, but I’ll think we’re figure out pretty soon whether this is the best balance,” he said on Tuesday.

“At the moment there’s still such a small sample size, there’s only been two Test matches with this team so we probably need to give it a little bit more time.”
