Bandits kill five residents, soldier in Plateau attack

Suspected Bandits Attack Zurak Community in Plateau State, Leaving Multiple Casualties

PLATEAU STATE, Nigeria — Suspected bandits attacked the Zurak community in the Wase local government area on Monday afternoon, resulting in the deaths of at least five residents and one soldier.

The assault, which began around 3:00 PM, led to a violent confrontation between the attackers and military personnel, leaving three soldiers reportedly missing.

Prior to the attack on Zurak, the bandits set fire to homes in the nearby Sabon Gari community. Witnesses reported that the assailants also looted shops, stealing food and other valuables.

Shapi’i Sambo, a local youth leader, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the body of the deceased soldier has been taken to Jos for further arrangements.

“This incident is devastating, and Zurak community is currently deserted as residents have fled to neighboring villages for fear of further attacks,” said Jibrin Isa, a resident of the Zak community.

This attack reflects an ongoing trend of banditry and kidnapping in the Wase local government area, with a previous incident on December 21, 2025, involving the abduction of 28 travelers.

Community leaders are urging government authorities to take action to restore security and order in the region.
