FG not doing enough on insecurity – Catholic Bishop Mamza

Federal Government Urged to Address Security Concerns

YOLA, Nigeria — Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, the Catholic Bishop of Yola, has criticized the Federal Government for its insufficient efforts to tackle insecurity in the country.

In a statement to journalists following the closing Mass of the Yola Diocesan Pastoral Council on Monday, Mamza, who previously served as chairman of the Adamawa State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), highlighted ongoing issues such as killings, kidnappings, and banditry that continue to plague various communities.

Mamza expressed disappointment that, despite government assurances, the security situation remains dire. “The government must go beyond promises and take decisive action to address the security challenges confronting the nation,” he said.

He emphasized that ensuring the safety of all Nigerians should be the primary responsibility of the administration, adding, “We are tired of failed promises.”

The bishop also called on security agencies to enhance their intelligence-gathering capabilities and improve the welfare of personnel to bolster their effectiveness in operations.
