Emeritus Professor Arrested in Enugu Amid Health Report Controversy
Emeritus Professor Martin Aghaji, a medical expert known for his independent assessment of Nnamdi Kanu’s health, has been arrested in Enugu, according to a statement from human rights lawyer Barrister Maxwell Okpara.
Okpara reported that Aghaji was taken into custody at his residence in Independence Layout on Friday. He urged the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and various civil society organizations to intervene.
Details surrounding the arrest remain unclear. However, Okpara highlighted that Aghaji’s medical findings, which disputed the official report from the Department of State Services (DSS), may have contributed to the situation.
In his statement, Okpara expressed concern, saying, “We call on the Nigerian Medical Association, Nigeria Bar Association, Civil Society Group, and other relevant authorities to ensure that due process and the rule of law are strictly observed, and that no one should be intimidated for speaking the truth.”
