Father of Five Murdered in Akure During Armed Robbery

A 47-year-old father of five was killed during a violent home invasion in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, over the weekend. The victim, Idris Clement, well-known for his work as a refrigerator and air conditioner technician, was attacked in the Shagari area of Akure South Local Council.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning, around 1:00 a.m., when a group of three armed robbers entered the community. Witnesses reported that the assailants targeted residents, forcibly taking their valuables.

Clement’s death has drawn outrage from the local community, as the robbers reportedly struck two homes before forcing their way into the Clement family residence.

In a statement, the victim’s family called for justice, urging security agencies to apprehend all individuals involved in the crime. AbdulFatai Clement, one of the victim’s sons, shared details of the harrowing encounter, describing his father’s efforts to defend the family.

“My father did not want to leave anything to chance, so he confronted one of the robbers,” AbdulFatai said. “He was unaware that there were several assailants who were heavily armed. They attacked him with axes and cutlasses, and one of them shot him. They fled immediately after he collapsed. We rushed him to the hospital, but he had lost too much blood.”

Authorities have confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the robbery and murder. DSP Jimoh Abayomi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ondo State, stated that the suspect is currently assisting with the investigation.
