Troops Halt Planned Attack in Katsina, Kill Eight Suspected Terrorists

KATSINA, Nigeria — Troops from the 17 Brigade, part of Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully thwarted a planned assault on commuters along the Kakumi-Guga Road in Bakori Local Government Area. In the operation, eight suspected terrorists were killed.

According to security sources who spoke to counterinsurgency reporter Zagazola Makama, the action was initiated following intelligence reports that armed individuals loyal to a known terrorist leader, Idi Abasu Aiki, were preparing to target motorists and travelers in the area.

The sources indicated that the suspected assailants were observed approaching the road on five motorcycles. In response to the intelligence, troops and hybrid security forces moved quickly to establish an ambush along the route.

“The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, during which eight of the assailants were neutralized,” a security source reported.

Following the confrontation, the troops conducted a thorough search of the area, recovering two AK-47 rifles and five motorcycles allegedly used by the attackers.

To prevent any possible retaliatory actions against nearby communities and travelers, patrols and monitoring efforts in the area have intensified.

This operation is part of the larger initiative by Operation Fansan Yamma aimed at curtailing the movement of terrorist groups and enhancing security within Katsina State and the broader North-West region.
