Five Arrested for Goat Theft in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended five individuals allegedly involved in the theft of 17 goats in Mokwa Local Government Area.

According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects were intercepted during a routine patrol along the Mokwa bypass on July 7. They were caught loading the goats into a Toyota Corolla bearing the registration number KNT 23 HP.

“The suspects could not provide a satisfactory account regarding the goats,” Abiodun stated. Following their arrest, police investigations revealed that the goats had been stolen from various owners within Mokwa town and were reportedly en route to Bida for sale.

The arrested suspects include Ramatu Yahaya, 24, of Bida; Amina Usman, 30, of Mokwa; Isyaku Yahaya, 15, of Bida; Danjuma Danladi, 31, also from Bida; and Mohammad Adamu, 30, from Bida. Some of the goat owners have since identified and reclaimed their livestock.

Abiodun noted that efforts to apprehend additional members of the syndicate are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
