Alleged $75k romance scam: IK Ogbonna denies involvement, EFCC invitation

Nigerian Actor IK Ogbonna Denies Involvement in Romance Scam
Nigerian actor IK Ogbonna has refuted allegations connecting him to a purported romance scam that gained traction online. Reports emerged early Friday indicating that Ogbonna was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside the FBI in relation to a $75,000 fraud case.
The allegations stem from a complaint filed by a 49-year-old American woman, Kimberly Ann, who claimed to have engaged in an online relationship with Ogbonna since 2025.
In response to the allegations, Ogbonna took to his Instagram story, asserting, “This report is completely false, malicious, and without any factual basis. I don’t support, or participate in any form of internet fraud, romance scams, or any other fraudulent activity.”
He emphasized the importance of public vigilance, remarking, “Unfortunately, this is not the first time my name, image, and identity have been used by unknown individuals operating fake social media accounts to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.”
Ogbonna further clarified, “I have never authorized anyone to represent me online, solicit money on my behalf, or engage in private conversations pretending to be me. Please remain vigilant and be extremely careful of impersonators and catfish accounts that exploit my identity to scam unsuspecting people.”
