Nigerian actress and producer Funke Akindele has called on young people to abandon the get-rich-quick mindset and focus instead on acquiring skills and maintaining a disciplined work ethic.

In a recent interview with Bella Naija, Akindele shared her personal journey as a testament to the value of hard work and perseverance. She emphasized that despite opportunities for easier, less legitimate forms of income, she chose to pursue her goals through dedication and self-improvement.

Akindele recounted her experiences as a university student at the University of Lagos, where she sold bed spaces to support herself, highlighting the sacrifices she made in pursuit of a legitimate income.

She urged the youth not to depend solely on their academic qualifications, but to complement their education with practical skills. “I could have taken an easier path, but I decided to follow the right one,” she stated. “I was hustling to make ends meet and that experience shaped who I am today.”

Emphasizing the importance of skills acquisition, Akindele remarked that young individuals should cultivate talents that can generate income, particularly in challenging job markets. “As a young person, it is crucial to have skills that can help you earn even when traditional job opportunities are scarce,” she said.
