Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has revealed that he is in the process of divorcing his current spouse in preparation for a polygamous marriage. Afolayan shared this information during a watch party for his latest film, addressing the topics of marriage and family dynamics.

The veteran filmmaker stated that his divorce case is currently pending in court. He expressed a willingness to navigate the challenges of the legal proceedings to pursue a marital structure he believes in.

Afolayan attributes his perspective on marriage to his upbringing, noting that his late father was a polygamist who had ten wives and 25 children. As the seventh child, Afolayan explained that his father’s lifestyle has significantly influenced his own identity and career achievements in the film industry.

During the discussion, Afolayan encouraged men to consider broader definitions of family, suggesting that the creation of lasting family legacies should be a priority. He stated, “I am in and out of court seeking a divorce. I don’t mind the toll. So I can marry many wives now.”
