I will reverse naming of public assets after Tinubu if elected President – Sowore vows

Sowore Vows to Reverse Naming of Public Facilities After Tinubu

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has pledged to reverse the naming of public facilities after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if elected as Nigeria’s president in 2027.

Sowore criticized the recent decision by the Federal Government to rename the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in honor of Tinubu, stating that such actions reflect a troubling trend of memorializing individuals associated with what he describes as an administration that has significantly harmed the nation.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Sowore emphasized, “The naming of highways, national institutions, and public assets after officials of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regime that impoverished Nigeria and those who enabled its decline will be reversed as a matter of urgency under a #Sowore2027 administration.”

The announcement regarding the coastal highway’s renaming came from the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi. During a press briefing in Abuja, Umahi explained that the change was made to acknowledge Tinubu’s long-standing vision for the project, which he had proposed nearly three decades ago while serving as the governor of Lagos State.

“This coastal highway is now named the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway. By the powers conferred on me as Minister of Works, in consultation with my Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, directors, and staff of the ministry, we decided to name it after him because of his dream for it,” Umahi stated. He continued, “It is one thing to dream and another thing to have the grace of God to actualize that dream.”
