Go Look For Someone Else To Do It

Mo Abudu Discusses Film Promotion Strategies at Lagos Summit
LAGOS — Media entrepreneur Mo Abudu stated that she does not intend to promote her films through dance videos, citing a mismatch with her personality and strengths. Abudu made her remarks during the Lagos Business of Film Summit, where she addressed evolving strategies in Nigerian film promotion.
While she acknowledged the success of filmmakers like Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, who utilize vibrant dance routines to engage audiences and drive cinema attendance, Abudu clarified that such energetic methods do not resonate with her.
“I look at people like Funke and Toyin, and I’m at a loss for where they find the energy for all of this,” Abudu said. She expressed respect for their approach but emphasized, “I have told my team that I can’t dance. They should find someone else for that role.”
Abudu also underscored the importance of recognizing that success in the film industry does not hinge on a single promotional formula.
“We need to understand what is required for box office success in Nigeria,” she stated, encouraging filmmakers to focus on their unique strengths as audience preferences and marketing demands continue to evolve.
