NEDC Expresses Condolences Following Tragic Accident Involving Journalists

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) extended its condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Chapter, and the Bauchi State Government following a tragic road accident on February 6, 2026.

The incident occurred on the Bauchi–Alkaleri road while journalists were accompanying an NEDC delegation during the commissioning and handover of completed projects in the state.

In a statement by Abba Musa, Head of Corporate Services at NEDC, the governing board, management, and staff characterized the event as heartbreaking. They offered their sympathies to the affected journalists, their families, and the broader journalism community.

The NEDC announced that it would provide full support and care for the victims and their families. The commission is actively reaching out to the journalists’ parent organizations to facilitate coordinated assistance.

In solidarity with those impacted, the NEDC also called for prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. This accident follows a recent tragedy in nearby Gombe State, where at least seven journalists and media workers were killed in a similar incident.
