Kwara Polytechnic gets acting rector, Dr Awolola Olabisi

Dr. Awolola Felicia Olabisi Appointed Acting Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic

ILORIN, Nigeria — Dr. Awolola Felicia Olabisi has been appointed as the Acting Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic following a directive from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq. This decision comes as the former rector, Abdul Jimoh Mohamed, has been asked to step aside pending an investigation into student protests concerning the temporary relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp to the permanent site of the polytechnic in Ilorin.

Dr. Olabisi, a respected academic and administrator, is set to assume her new role immediately. She is expected to apply her extensive experience and leadership skills to navigate the institution through this challenging time.

In her capacity as acting rector, Dr. Olabisi will oversee academic operations, engage with stakeholders, and ensure a safe and productive environment for both students and faculty.

In response to the unrest, Governor Abdulrazaq has established a three-member committee tasked with investigating the underlying causes of the protests and the subsequent actions taken. The committee is led by State Attorney General Ibrahim Sulyman, with members including Commissioner for Environment Nafisat Buge and Permanent Secretary for Service Welfare Dr. Mrs. Mercy Olufunke Shittu.

The committee has been given two weeks to submit its findings to the governor. Its mandate includes examining both the immediate and remote causes of the protests, recommending preventive measures for future incidents, and providing suggestions for the institution’s development.

Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, stated that the committee will consult with relevant stakeholders throughout its investigation.
