In a post on X, Peter Okoye responded to a fan’s inquiry about his children’s fluency in Igbo, saying, “Who Naija language help? Make I hear word abeg.” The comment followed his earlier remark about watching his children speak French while in Paris, which prompted the fan’s question.

Peter’s comments received criticism on social media. Many users expressed disappointment, pointing out the irony given that his music often incorporates Nigerian languages, contributing to his commercial success.

In light of the backlash, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, took to X to clarify his stance. He emphasized his pride in his Igbo heritage and Nigerian identity, stating, “100% proudly Igbo. 100% proudly Nigerian. I’m a ‘nobody’, I repeat!! A nobody!!, without the culture, native language. 100% proudly Nigerian. 100% proudly Igbo.”
