Nigerian Activist Issues Warning to South African Singer Over Concert Amid Xenophobia Concerns

LAGOS, Nigeria — Oruche Ogeamara Precious, known as Mama Pee, a prominent Nigerian influencer and human rights advocate, has issued a warning to South African singer Tyla regarding her planned concert in Nigeria.

Mama Pee’s warning, communicated on Thursday, stems from Tyla’s lack of public condemnation regarding recent xenophobic violence and the killings of Nigerians in South Africa.

Reports indicate that the current anti-foreigners campaign in South Africa, which escalated in April 2026, has resulted in increased hostility and violence against foreign nationals, including several Nigerians. Disturbing videos showing attacks and fatal incidents have further heightened tensions in the region.

In response to the announcement of Tyla’s APOP World Tour, which is scheduled to include a performance in Lagos on December 22, Mama Pee criticized the artist’s decision to hold a concert while violence against Nigerians persists in South Africa.

“Can Tyla come to Nigeria without consequence as we buy tickets to see her?” Mama Pee queried in an Instagram post. “A young man was recently killed by police in her country due to hate, and she has said nothing. Yet, she expects to perform here while our people suffer?”

She continued, urging her fellow Nigerians to recognize their valid concerns about the ongoing violence. “Tyla should remain in her country. Her silence amidst these injustices speaks volumes.”

Mama Pee concluded her message by rallying support for Nigerians, emphasizing the need for collective action in light of government inaction.
