Benue: One killed as gunmen open fire on passenger bus in Ohimini

Benue State Police Confirm Death of Passenger in Ambush

The Benue State Police Command reported the death of a passenger following an attack by suspected armed bandits on a commercial bus in the Ohimini Local Government Area early Thursday morning.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on February 5 in the Ojali community. The 18-seater Hummer bus, registered as GME 911 XE from Gombe, was carrying passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Gombe State when it was ambushed.

The driver, Musa Jibrin, reportedly encountered the gunmen who opened fire from nearby bushes as the bus traveled through Ojali. One passenger, identified as 30-year-old Sanusi Danmaji, was shot and killed during the incident. Authorities confirmed that no passengers were abducted by the assailants.

In response to the shooting, the Divisional Police Officer in Ohimini deployed patrol teams and tactical operatives to the area. They conducted a thorough search of nearby vegetation in an attempt to locate the attackers and documented the scene.

After a security sweep, the driver and remaining passengers were cleared to continue their journey.

The case has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. Police officials have advised travelers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.
