First Lady Urges Healthy Lifestyles for Breastfeeding Mothers as Nigeria Commemorates World Breastfeeding Week 2026
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on mothers, particularly those who are breastfeeding, to adopt healthy lifestyles and nutritious diets as the nation observes World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to August 7, 2026.
In a message marking the annual event, Tinubu endorsed this year’s theme, “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works.” She emphasized that breastfeeding is a critical investment in the health and future of children, families, and the nation.
“Breastfeeding lays the foundation for a child’s healthy growth and lifelong development, making it a vital investment in families and a nation,” she stated.
The First Lady urged lactating mothers to prioritize good nutrition and healthy living for their own well-being and that of their children. “I encourage mothers, especially lactating mothers, to embrace healthy lifestyles and eat nutritious foods for their well-being and that of their children,” she added.
World Breastfeeding Week is an international observance aimed at promoting breastfeeding and raising awareness of its numerous health, nutritional, and developmental benefits for infants and mothers.
