Edo State Security Corps Arrests Suspected Armed Robber

Benin City, Edo State – Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have apprehended a 38-year-old man suspected of armed robbery in Benin City. The suspect, identified as Sadiq Mohammed from Kogi State, is purportedly a member of a four-man gang accused of terrorizing residents in the Oluku, Ugbowo, and Uselu areas of the state capital.

Richard Balogun, Deputy Commander of Operations for the ESSC, confirmed the arrest, noting that several security personnel sustained injuries during the operation.

The arrest took place in a residence in Oluku, located in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area. Balogun reported that the gang attempted an armed robbery when they encountered a vigorous response from ESSC officers.

Despite strong resistance, Sadiq Mohammed was apprehended at the scene while other gang members fled. Officers recovered a locally made pistol, knives, and several mobile phones from the suspects.

Balogun assured the public that the ESSC remains committed to supporting the police and other security agencies in their efforts to enhance safety in the region. The arrested suspect has been transferred to the police for further profiling and investigation.
