Jigawa Assembly Speaker Elected Chairman of Progressive Speakers Conference
The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, has been elected Chairman of the Progressive Speakers Conference, an organization comprised of Speakers from State Houses of Assembly affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dangyatin’s election took place during the conference’s annual congress and the election of new executive members held in Abuja. The Progressive Speakers Conference aims to enhance collaboration among APC Speakers across Nigeria, promote the party’s principles, and contribute to sustainable democracy and national development.
In addition to Dangyatin’s leadership, other officials were elected during the congress. The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly will serve as Deputy Chairman for the South, while the Speaker from Nasarawa State will take the role of Deputy Chairman for the North. The position of Treasurer has been filled by the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Six zonal vice chairmen were also appointed, including Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide from Ogun State, who will represent the South-West zone. A representative from the Plateau State House will serve for the North-Central zone, among others.
The newly elected officials are set to be sworn in on February 9, 2026.
Following the announcement, Jigawa State Governor Malam Umar Namadi extended his congratulations to Dangyatin, calling the election well-deserved. In a statement from his chief press secretary, the governor emphasized the significance of Dangyatin’s leadership at this crucial juncture as the APC prepares for the upcoming general elections. He expressed confidence in Dangyatin’s ability to foster collaboration among APC members and contribute to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
