Driver, conductor feared dead in Anambra tanker explosion

Tanker Explosion in Anambra Claims Two Lives

A driver and a conductor were killed in a tanker explosion on the Ihiala-Onitsha Road in Anambra State, near the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office.

The incident occurred on Sunday, as confirmed by FRSC Sector Commander Bridget Asekhauno. She reported that the tanker, which was carrying flammable materials, lacked a registration number, as did a motorcycle involved in the crash.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the tanker was speeding when the driver lost control, crashing into a roadside barricade before the explosion. The blast also impacted a motorcycle that was following behind.

A total of three male adults were involved in the incident, with the deaths of both the tanker driver and conductor reported. The motorcycle rider sustained injuries and was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala for medical treatment.

Asekhauno stated that FRSC rescue teams, in coordination with the fire service, responded promptly to extinguish the fire.

She expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and remain vigilant while driving to prevent similar accidents.
