Idoma Association USA Raises Security Concerns with U.S. Government
The Idoma Association USA (IAUSA) has announced plans to bring attention to the escalating security crisis in Benue South by engaging with the United States government.
During its 30th Annual Convention held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, IAUSA resolved to submit a position paper to President Donald Trump. The association seeks an opportunity for His Royal Majesty, Agaba’Idu John Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji, the Och’Idoma V, to address the security and humanitarian issues before members of the U.S. Congress.
The communiqué issued at the conclusion of the convention expressed serious concerns regarding “persistent insecurity, incessant killings, and the displacement of innocent citizens” in the Benue South Senatorial District and surrounding areas. Attendees called on both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government, along with security agencies, to implement “decisive and sustained steps” to protect lives and restore peace. The association emphasized that the ongoing loss of life must not be permitted to become normalized.
In addition to its appeal to the U.S. President, IAUSA aims to draw international attention to the humanitarian challenges facing the region and seek diplomatic support for affected communities.
The resolutions also highlight the association’s commitment to facilitating the Och’Idoma V’s presentations to relevant congressional members and committees, broadening the discourse on the security situation to a wider audience.
The convention recognized J. P. Paige, a statesman from Norfolk, Virginia, who attended and expressed solidarity with the Idoma people. Paige committed to assisting in the delivery of IAUSA’s petition to the President.
In his Royal Address at the convention, the Och’Idoma V acknowledged the severe security challenges facing the Idoma Kingdom and reaffirmed the traditional council’s dedication to collaborating with stakeholders to achieve peace and security.
The attendees further advocated for enhanced cooperation between the traditional institution, government, diaspora organizations, civil society, and Idoma communities in tackling these issues. They urged residents of Benue South to support accountable and competent leadership while rejecting political inducements that could compromise responsible governance.
