President Tinubu Announces Construction Impact on 147 Structures in Lagos
LAGOS, Nigeria — President Bola Tinubu revealed that approximately 147 structures in Lagos State will be impacted by the construction of the service lane for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Of these, only five will be fully demolished.
Tinubu made the announcement during a stakeholders’ engagement event held in conjunction with the launch of rehabilitation efforts on the Eko and Marine bridges, as well as repairs to a portion of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that was damaged by flooding. He was represented at the event by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
While detailing the project’s implications, Tinubu noted that the remaining 142 structures would face minimal disruption. He assured affected property owners that the Federal Government would provide compensation where necessary and encouraged patience throughout the process.
“It will be given to you at the right time,” he stated.
The President emphasized that the stakeholder engagement aimed to enhance public understanding and cooperation, highlighting that community support is crucial for the successful execution of infrastructure projects. He described the Eko Bridge as one of the key structures built in Nigeria’s post-independence era and underscored the Marine Bridge’s importance as a vital access route to the Lagos seaports.
Additionally, Tinubu commended Minister of Works David Umahi for his efforts to improve and expand the nation’s road infrastructure. He urged residents and stakeholders to collaborate with the government on initiatives designed to enhance transportation and strengthen infrastructure throughout Lagos State.
“For all of us to enjoy the full benefit of infrastructure, we have to shift a bit so that it becomes an asset that will outlive all of us,” he said.
The figure of 147 affected structures was provided during the engagement by a representative from the AEC consortium overseeing the project. Tinubu reiterated the government’s openness to constructive criticism while urging stakeholders to support well-planned projects that serve the public good.
“It is my honor to flag off all of these projects for the benefit of mankind, our citizens in Lagos, and all our people across the country,” he added.
