Police Summon Osun Lawmaker Over Incendiary Comments Ahead of Election
Osun State Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo announced that lawmaker Francis Fadahunsi, representing the Osun East Senatorial District, has been summoned following inflammatory comments attributed to him regarding the upcoming governorship election.
In a recent statement, Fadahunsi allegedly suggested that members of the Accord Party seen in Ilesa before Saturday’s election should be harmed. Etaifo condemned these remarks, emphasizing the responsibility of political figures to promote peace and avoid inciting violence, especially during this critical electoral period.
“At this crucial time in the electoral process, political leaders and public officials must exhibit restraint,” Etaifo stated. “They should support peaceful dialogue and avoid comments that could escalate tensions or erode public trust in the electoral and security arrangements in place.”
The Commissioner reaffirmed the police’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism in protecting democratic values. He underscored that any actions or statements that could incite violence or disrupt public order would not be tolerated.
In light of these concerns, Etaifo has invited Fadahunsi to clarify his statements in a bid to foster understanding and peace ahead of the election. He emphasized that this invitation should not be seen as intimidation but as a proactive measure to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election in Osun State.
The Commissioner urged all political stakeholders and the public to remain law-abiding, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and express any grievances through legal channels.
