Anambra State Security Forces Neutralize Three Suspected Militia Members
Anambra State, Nigeria — Security forces in Anambra have neutralized three suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) Eastern Security Network (ESN) militia while enforcing an illegal sit-at-home order along the Nnewi–Oba Road.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, reported via social media platform X that a joint patrol team encountered armed individuals blocking roads near Akaboukwu, Uruagu, Nnewi, early on February 9 at approximately 2:00 a.m.
Upon noticing the security operatives, the armed suspects opened fire, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Security personnel and local vigilantes engaged the militants, who ultimately retreated into nearby bushes.
During the confrontation, three individuals were neutralized. Others fled, reportedly sustaining injuries and taking their firearms with them.
The bodies of the deceased militants, discovered adorned with various native charms, were recovered and confirmed dead by medical personnel. They have since been transported to a morgue for autopsy and preservation.
