Magistrates in Cross River embark on indefinite strike over 8 unmet demands

Magistrates in Cross River State Initiate Indefinite Strike

Cross River State – Magistrates across all courts and government offices in Cross River State have commenced an indefinite strike on February 9, 2026. This action comes as a response to the state government’s failure to address a list of eight demands presented by the Magistrates Association of Nigeria (MAN).

In a statement issued from Calabar, the association expressed frustration over the government’s disregard for multiple appeals, both written and verbal. The most recent request was formally submitted in a letter dated February 2, 2026.

“This strike is a result of the persistent inaction by the Government of Cross River State concerning our demands,” the statement read. It further emphasized that the strike will remain in effect until the association’s conditions are met.

The announcement, signed by Chairman Godwin O. Onah and Secretary Solomon O. Abuo, instructed all magistrates in the state to strictly adhere to the directive, ceasing all official duties including court proceedings until further notice.
