Imo Specialist Hospital Performs First Robotics-Assisted Surgery


UMUGUMA, Imo State — Governor Hope Uzodimma announced the successful completion of the first robotics-assisted surgery at the Imo Specialist Hospital in Umuguma. The governor shared the news on his X account on Friday, August 21, calling it a significant milestone for the state’s healthcare system.

In his statement, Uzodimma expressed his pride in the achievement. “Today, I am delighted as we witness a historic milestone at Imo Specialist Hospital,” he said.

The governor highlighted that this development represents a new phase in his administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery throughout Imo State. He noted that the state government had completed upgrades to the specialist hospital, which included the construction of a dedicated facility for its Robotics Center.

The center, established under a public-private partnership, is outfitted with modern equipment, advanced technologies, and improved medical infrastructure. Uzodimma emphasized that these investments aim to ensure the hospital provides quality and accessible healthcare services to community residents.

“I am proud that we are positioning Imo Specialist Hospital to provide quality, accessible, and world-class healthcare for Ndi Imo,” he stated.

In addition to serving local residents, the governor mentioned that the hospital is being developed as a potential center for medical tourism. “Beyond serving our people, our vision is to make the hospital a credible destination for medical tourism, attracting patients from across Nigeria and beyond,” Uzodimma added.

He concluded by reiterating his administration’s commitment to fostering a modern healthcare system that can inspire public trust and contribute to saving lives. “This milestone reaffirms our determination to build a healthcare system that inspires confidence, saves lives, and reflects the Imo we aspire to create,” Uzodimma said.
