Retired Army Officer Killed in Suspected Bandit Attack in Benue State

A retired army officer was shot and killed in what authorities believe to be an armed bandit attack in Benue State. The incident occurred Sunday at approximately 5:00 p.m. in Anem Village, located in the Ikyurav-Ya area of the Kwande Local Government.

The victim has been identified as Sgt. Chiayongo Jem’m, who was reportedly the target of the assailants. Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the attack in a post on X on Monday.

Following the shooting, the victim’s family retrieved his body and transported it to an undisclosed mortuary in Ikyogen. In response to the attack, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from Jato-Aka has organized a joint patrol team to pursue the suspects.

Authorities are currently conducting searches in nearby bushes, and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has assumed control of the investigation.
