DJ Tolanibaj Alleges Theft by Former Employee, Appeals for Public Assistance
LAGOS, Nigeria — DJ Tolanibaj, a well-known entrepreneur and former contestant on “Big Brother Nigeria,” broke down in tears as she recounted a troubling incident involving a former employee who allegedly stole DJ equipment valued at millions of naira from her academy.
In April, Tolanibaj hired Precious Akiyemi Deborah as an executive assistant and subsequently entrusted her with over ₦6 million to procure four DJ controllers for the academy. However, weeks later, Tolanibaj reported that three of the controllers had gone missing. When questioned about their whereabouts, Akiyemi reportedly claimed she had taken them home because they were defective.
Following her dismissal, Tolanibaj sent staff members to retrieve the equipment from Akiyemi’s residence, but no one was found at the location. Tolanibaj later alleged that Akiyemi attempted to sell the stolen controllers and sought to rent similar equipment from another DJ.
The incident has since been reported to local authorities, resulting in the arrest of two individuals accused of purchasing the stolen controllers. One controller has been recovered, but Akiyemi remains at large. Tolanibaj is urging anyone with information regarding Akiyemi’s whereabouts to come forward.
While visibly emotional during her account of the events, Tolanibaj emphasized the importance of implementing robust structures and accountability measures for business owners to protect their assets.
