Fire Destroys Shops in Ibadan Market

IBADAN, Oyo State — A fire broke out on Monday evening, destroying several shops in the Iya Maryam Adebara complex at Ogunpa Market.

Officials from the Oyo State Fire Service confirmed that at least ten shops were affected by the blaze, though no casualties were reported.

Hon. Maroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, stated in a release on Tuesday that emergency responders arrived swiftly and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. The Federal Fire Service assisted in the response effort.

“Upon arrival, we found ten shops engulfed in flames,” Akinwande said. “Our officers acted quickly to contain the situation and limit further damage.”

The fire reportedly originated from the fueling of a running generator by one of the shop owners. Firefighters were able to save properties valued in the billions of naira.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
