Rainy season yet to begin despite showers in North Central states – NiMET

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) announced Tuesday that the country’s rainy season has not yet commenced.

In a statement, NiMET clarified that recent rainfall observed in parts of central Nigeria does not indicate the start of the rainy season. The agency noted that while an early onset is anticipated in coastal and North Central states, it is not expected at this time. Additionally, a delayed start to the rainy season is projected for Borno State and surrounding areas.

NiMET also reported that there will be between 28 and 40 rain-free days projected during the 2026 rainy season.
