Nigerian Skit Maker Alleges Assault by Police
NIGERIA — Ganiyu Morufu, widely known as Ijoba Lande, a prominent skit maker and actor, has alleged that he was assaulted by officers of the Nigerian police.
In a post on his Facebook page, Ijoba Lande stated that the incident occurred at the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Police Force. He reported that officers seized his mobile phone and took $1,200 in cash belonging to his brother.
A video accompanying his post showed him with visible injuries, including bleeding around his eyes, while bystanders attempted to assist him with water. Another clip appeared to show him in a police station, where he seemed to be preparing to file a complaint regarding the alleged assault.
Ijoba Lande indicated that the attack transpired six days after his return from the United Kingdom, although he did not disclose the exact location or circumstances of the incident.
Known for his comedic skits and roles in Yoruba Nollywood productions, Ijoba Lande’s claims have sparked widespread reactions on social media.
