Search and Rescue Operations Underway After Vessel Collision in Istanbul

Turkiye’s Coast Guard has initiated a search and rescue operation following a collision involving two Turkish-flagged commercial vessels off the coast of Istanbul, resulting in the loss of contact with one vessel and its crew of 10.

The incident occurred at 3 a.m. local time (00:00 GMT) in the Marmara Sea, approximately 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Silivri, a suburb of Istanbul, according to a statement from the Istanbul governor’s office.

Authorities confirmed that contact was lost with the Tugberk Imamoglu after it collided with the Alsu, another Turkish-flagged vessel, which reported no visible damage.

In response to the emergency, multiple naval units from the Coast Guard’s Marmara and Bosphorus Command were dispatched to the site, alongside a Coast Guard helicopter, to assist in locating the missing crew members.
