‘Pampering your children will destroy them’ – Patience Ozokwor warns parents

Patience Ozokwor, a seasoned actress in the Nigerian film industry known as Mama G, has issued a caution to parents regarding the risks of overindulging their children. In her recent statements, she emphasized that excessive pampering could hinder children’s development into responsible and independent adults.
During a discussion focused on parenting, wealth, and inheritance, Ozokwor urged parents to allow their children to face challenges and earn what they desire, rather than providing everything for them. She remarked, “When you say, ‘I don’t want my children to suffer what I suffered when I was growing up,’ that’s the best way to destroy your children.”
Ozokwor clarified that her intention was not to advocate for parents to subject their children to hardship but to encourage them to understand the value of hard work. “I’m not saying allow them to suffer; what I’m saying is allow them to struggle. Go through the process,” she explained. She further emphasized the dangers of excessive pampering, stating, “When you pamper them, they don’t come out to be anything.”
In her remarks about family wealth, Ozokwor stressed that children should not expect to inherit their parents’ possessions without effort. “Keep the things that you have and let them know that you go get yours, this is mine,” she said.
She also shared her personal approach to parenting, recalling how she advised her son to strive for his own home rather than assuming he would inherit hers. “I told my son, my house isn’t yours, go and work for your own,” she stated.
