Israeli Air Strikes Continue Despite Truce Agreements, Targeting Southern Lebanon

Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have escalated, with a recent airstrike in the town of Kfar Reman resulting in the deaths of two individuals, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. The strike, which targeted a motorcycle, is part of a broader campaign against Hezbollah amid ongoing tensions in the region.
The Lebanese state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that the offensive occurred near Nabatieh, close to the contested Ali al-Taher ridge. The Israeli army has claimed control of the area, though Hezbollah has not verified the loss.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Friday that Israeli forces had successfully neutralized Hezbollah fighters believed to be operating from tunnels beneath the strategic ridge, which oversees significant territory in the area.
Additionally, Israeli air and artillery strikes targeted seven towns across the Tyre and Nabatieh districts. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from these attacks. The affected towns included al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun, Buyout al-Sayyad, Beit Lif, and Srebbine in the Tyre district, as well as Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Mayfadoun in Nabatieh.
These military actions occur despite two truce agreements brokered by the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump on June 4 and June 26. The June 4 ceasefire required a “complete cessation” of Hezbollah’s fire and the withdrawal of its fighters from areas south of the Litani River. The June 26 agreement, however, did not mandate the withdrawal of Israeli forces, linking it instead to the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Since the onset of the latest escalation on March 2, Israeli attacks have resulted in more than 4,000 deaths and at least 12,000 injuries, according to Lebanese officials. Furthermore, over one million individuals have been displaced from their homes.
The conflict intensified following Hezbollah’s rocket fire into Israel in retaliation for U.S.-Israeli airstrikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a separate development on Friday, Israeli authorities released four Lebanese prisoners previously detained in southern Lebanon. Their transfer to Lebanese authorities was facilitated by the International Committee of the Red Cross, following the release of another Lebanese individual the previous day as part of an arrangement between the two nations.
