Rivers Assembly probes government funding of PAMO University

Rivers State House of Assembly Forms Committee to Investigate University Funding

The Rivers State House of Assembly has established an Ad-Hoc Committee to investigate the funding provided to PAMO University of Medical Sciences since its inception in 2017.

Speaker Martin Amaewhule announced the formation of the committee in accordance with Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

In a statement released by Enemi Alabo George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, the committee’s mandate includes assessing the total financial support from the Rivers State Government to the university and evaluating whether the funds were utilized for their intended purposes.

Additionally, the committee will review the scholarship scheme of the university, including the number of beneficiaries and their identities.

The seven-member committee is led by Dumle Maol, along with members Silvanus Nwankwo, Lemchi Nyeche, Henrietta Loolo, Peter Abbey, Napoleon Ukalikpe, and Emilia Amadi.

This inquiry follows the House’s recent decision to deny the allocation of six billion naira to PAMO University as part of the state’s 2026 budget. The committee is expected to present its findings to the House by September 30, 2026.
