‘Say What I Have Done Wrong’ – Obi challenges Nigerians
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), is urging Nigerians to examine his background and publicly disclose any wrongdoing attributed to him. Obi made this request during a town hall meeting on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, an event dubbed “Obi Talks Nigeria,” where he addressed questions related to the upcoming 2027 general election.
The former governor of Anambra State stated that he and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have made their personal and educational histories available for public review. “I want to give every Nigerian the opportunity to know who I am,” Obi remarked, emphasizing transparency.
“We have presented our backgrounds, from our dates of birth to our education, and everything is verifiable worldwide,” he added.
Obi’s remarks come amid increasing scrutiny of the backgrounds and qualifications of candidates preparing for the 2027 presidential race. During the meeting, he also referred indirectly to his ongoing legal dispute with Kenneth Okonkwo, his former spokesperson from the 2023 presidential campaign. This dispute centers on alleged defamatory statements regarding their past collaborations.
Obi explained that he initiated legal action after Okonkwo claimed to have information that could astonish the public. “We have sued somebody in court. He said he knows something he can say that would shock people. I want him to reveal it,” Obi said.
He further extended a challenge to the public, stating, “If there is anything that you know I have done that is wrong, say it out now. I’m challenging the world: if you know anything that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has done that is wrong, come forward.”
The NDC candidate asserted that anyone aspiring to the highest political office in Nigeria must emerge from a credible and transparent process. “You cannot continue to answer His Excellency when the process that got you there is not excellent,” he concluded.
