Alcohol encourages banditry — NAFDAC
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has linked the consumption of alcohol to an increase in banditry in Nigeria.
During an interview on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily” on Wednesday, NAFDAC Director-General Professor Mojisola Adeyeye highlighted the health risks associated with alcohol, particularly its harmful effects on the kidneys and liver.
Adeyeye acknowledged that the agency’s recent ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages in sachets and PET bottles of less than 200 milliliters has faced some public backlash. However, she emphasized that many Nigerians are primarily concerned about the well-being of future generations.
She noted that the sale of alcohol in these smaller containers was approved decades ago, but its widespread availability has led to challenges. In response, NAFDAC implemented the ban to curb the accessibility of these products.
