FIFA Clarifies Hosting Rights for 2030 World Cup Final
Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. However, FIFA has confirmed that no decision has been made regarding the hosting of the final match.
Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, claimed during a political rally that Morocco had secured the right to host the final. “The city of Benslimane will host the World Cup final. Hate it or love it, and if anyone wants to talk on top of that, let them talk,” Lekjaa asserted, as translated by the Associated Press. He further stated, “The city is Benslimane, the Hassan II Stadium is the stadium, and I hope that Morocco will be playing in it.”
The King Hassan II Stadium, under construction near Casablanca, is anticipated to accommodate 115,000 spectators.
FIFA addressed these claims, emphasizing that a venue for the final will be announced at a future date. The organization also refuted reports from British media suggesting that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had promised the final to Morocco in exchange for political support amid his re-election campaign next year.
This World Cup will mark the second time an African nation has hosted final matches, following South Africa’s 2010 tournament.
