Emir of Minna Calls for Corporate Support of Traditional Institutions
MINNA, Niger State — Alhaji Farouq Bahago, the Emir of Minna, has urged corporate organizations to lend their support to traditional institutions, emphasizing their vital role in fostering peace, stability, and development within communities.
Bahago’s remarks came during the commissioning of the Palace of Mai-Anguwan Gidan Mangoro, a project completed by the National Examinations Council (NECO). The event also marked the turbanning of Prof. Dantani Wushishi as the Maji Dadin Gidan Mangoro.
Represented by Salisu Garba, the Emir noted that the longstanding peaceful relationship between NECO and local communities demonstrates a spirit of goodwill. “This palace symbolizes unity, cultural heritage, and the enduring role of traditional institutions in strengthening social cohesion,” he stated.
He further asserted that the project exemplifies the importance of respecting cultural foundations in development efforts.
During the event, Wushishi emphasized that NECO’s commitment to corporate social responsibility extends beyond its primary functions of administering examinations and ensuring educational quality. “We understand that strong education systems thrive when communities are stable, peaceful, and well-coordinated,” he said.
Wushishi noted that NECO has actively engaged in enhancing the welfare of host communities through various initiatives that support traditional values and leadership. He commended the Gidan Mangoro community for demonstrating peace and maturity, which has facilitated NECO’s operations without disruption.
In addition to the palace project, NECO donated two transformers and motorized boreholes to the Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako communities, further reinforcing its commitment to community development.
