Bauchi State Police Arrest Two Suspects in Kidnapping Plot

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with an alleged plan to kidnap and murder a resident of Machiyar Kuka Village in the Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area.

The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Sunusi Muhammad from Tallaran Village and 20-year-old Idris Aliyu. The arrests were made following a tip-off from a concerned citizen regarding threats made against the victim by unidentified individuals.

According to a statement released Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib, the victim was reportedly threatened over the phone and demanded to pay a ransom of N1.5 million. The suspects allegedly warned the victim that failure to comply would result in his abduction and death.

Following the receipt of this information, detectives from the Bununu Division initiated a covert operation. Muhammad was apprehended at approximately 1:30 a.m. on September 11 while allegedly attempting to collect the ransom. During questioning, he disclosed the identity of his accomplice, leading to Aliyu’s subsequent arrest.

Both suspects have reportedly confessed to the crime voluntarily. The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the officers involved for their professionalism and rapid response. He also expressed gratitude to the citizen who provided the initial information, urging the public to report any suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.

“The Command remains committed to proactive policing and encourages community members to promptly relay any concerns to law enforcement,” the commissioner stated.
