I saw people run mad, dead bodies on streets — Fireboy DML on Lagos culture shock
Afrobeats singer Fireboy DML recently spoke about the cultural shock he experienced upon relocating to Lagos to pursue his music career.
During a livestream event, Fireboy shared his initial fears when he arrived in the city. He recounted troubling encounters, including witnessing a person exhibiting signs of mental distress and coming across deceased individuals on the streets.
The singer expressed that the presence of cultists and the overall appearance of some residents further added to his unease.
“I was so scared the first time I came to Lagos in 2016, in Surulere,” Fireboy said. “People’s eyes were so red, and they looked scary. In two weeks, I saw someone run mad, dead bodies, and cultists. Now, I also look like those scary people.”
Despite his apprehensions, Fireboy chose to persevere and adapt to the lifestyle of the city.
