ABUJA — The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been awarded the Distinguished Organisation Award by the Nigerian Economic Society (NES) in acknowledgment of its reforms and contributions to the nation’s macroeconomic stability and economic development.
The award was presented during the NES’s 67th Annual Conference, which took place in Abuja from September 7 to 10, 2026. Dr. Victor Oboh, Director of the Monetary Policy Department at the CBN, accepted the award on behalf of the central bank’s Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso.
This recognition follows a series of reforms implemented by the CBN over the past three years, aimed at enhancing the monetary, foreign exchange, and financial sectors. Key measures include changes to the foreign exchange market, the settlement of long-standing foreign exchange obligations, the cessation of “Ways and Means” financing to the federal government, the rollout of the Payment System Vision 2028, and the recapitalization of the banking industry. These initiatives are intended to create a more robust, resilient, and globally competitive financial system.
In remarks regarding the award, Cardoso described it as a validation of the CBN’s commitment to excellence and national development. He stated, “The Distinguished Organisation Award is a testament to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s unwavering pursuit of excellence, institutional resilience, and commitment to national development.”
Cardoso emphasized that the CBN will continue to pursue reforms and innovations to meet its objectives, stating that it remains dedicated to fostering a stronger economy and securing a brighter future for Nigeria.
