Odumodublvck sparks reactions after asking President Tinubu for grant
Controversial rapper Odumodublvck has drawn mixed reactions after publicly urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend financial support to himself and fellow entertainers.
In a post made on the President’s X handle—formerly Twitter—on Friday, Odumodublvck reacted to a discussion regarding Tinubu’s meeting with entertainment and media executive Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group in Paris. He expressed the need for the government to not only recognize the prestige the entertainment industry brings to Nigeria but also to provide financial assistance to artists.
“Baba come give boys advance from government funds. Na you go be the biggest label boss. Because of you, artists no go fight their labels and underground artists go see something,” Odumodublvck wrote. He further implored the President to “come sign all of us. And I mean all of us.”
The rapper faced criticism from some fans who questioned why he chose to comment on the President’s international engagements while remaining silent on pressing issues such as terrorism and economic hardship in the country.
In response to the backlash, Odumodublvck highlighted the lack of government support for artists compared to civil servants and business owners who receive various benefits. He noted that no artist has received government funding to produce an album, despite the global success of Nigerian musicians. “Jaga [Jagaban], give me to fly high. I deserve it, sir. Governmental backing for artists gatts dey,” he added.
Odumodublvck’s call for financial support from President Tinubu came as a surprise to many, particularly since the rapper was previously commended for declining a substantial fee to perform at a Tinubu campaign event. This recent appeal has prompted discussions about his integrity and political stance, particularly as Nigeria approaches its presidential election and Tinubu seeks re-election.
