TRABZON, Turkey — Mohamed Salah scored a hat trick and provided an assist as Trabzonspor defeated defending champions Galatasaray 4-0 in a dominant performance at Papara Park on Saturday. The match marked Galatasaray’s first loss of the Turkish Super Lig season.
Salah opened the scoring early in the fourth minute, completing a well-placed run from midfield with a composed finish. He then set up teammate Noah Saviolo for a goal in the 39th minute, as Saviolo struck from inside the penalty area to increase Trabzonspor’s lead.
Just before halftime, Salah added another goal in the 44th minute, converting a precise assist from Franculino Dju. With this third goal, Trabzonspor went into the break with a commanding three-goal advantage.
In the 80th minute, Salah completed his hat trick, sprinting more than half the length of the pitch unopposed before finishing with his characteristic side-foot strike.
This season, the Egyptian forward has already tallied seven goals and contributed two assists in six league appearances.
The match was not without its tensions; Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk was ejected from the game in the 71st minute, and Lesley Ugochukwu received a red card in the 87th minute.
Thomas Reis has recently taken over coaching duties at Trabzonspor following the departure of Fatih Tekke earlier this month. Currently, Trabzonspor sits fifth in the league table with 10 points from six matches, three points shy of leaders Galatasaray.
